De DePuy Ortopedia® Retiro del Mercado del Implante de Cadera
DePuy Orthopaedics®, is the division of Johnson & Johnson that manufactures the DePuy ASR XL Acetabular System® total hip replacement and ASR Hip Resurfacing System®. These systems where said to be an advancement in technology regarding total hip replacement surgery. However, in 2010 Depuy Orthopaedics® recalled the Depuy Hip Replacement Systems® due to faulty ratings and serious side effects from the devices.
On average a new hip replacement last an estimated 13-15 years; however, DePuy Hip Replacement Systems® were experiencing issues within only two or three years. As a result second costly surgeries were necessary which resulted in the patient experiencing serious pain, possible infections, additional physical therapy, and life altering consequences such as less earning capacity and lost wages during recovery. Some common side effects of the DePuy Malfunctioning Hip Replacement® systems are: fractured bones; infections; allergic reactions; loose hip cups; pseudotumors from metal debris; hip dislocations; permanent muscle and tissue damage; permanent nerve damage; and chronic pain.
